Richmond (pronounced /ˈrɪtʃmənd/) is a city in western Contra Costa County, California, United States. The city was incorporated on August 7, 1905.[1] It is located in the East Bay, part of the San Francisco Bay Area. It is a residential inner suburb of San Francisco, as well as the site of heavy industry, which has been undergoing a shift towards a service and commercial economy since the 1970s. Richmond Ballet was founded in 1957,

…by local dance enthusiasts as a performance outlet for students in local dance programs. It existed for more than twenty years as a small, civic company until 1975, when the School of Richmond Ballet was created. In 1978, Richmond Ballet continued its growth with the move to its Lombardy Street location. This acquisition was made possible by the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. William Massey Sr.

In 1980, Ms. Stoner Winslett became the founding artistic director. She continues to lead and manage the organization 32 years later.

In 1984, Richmond Ballet became the first professional Ballet company in Virginia and was designated the State Ballet of Virginia in 1990, by then Governor Wilder.

Richmond Engineering Works ('REW'​) was formed by five engineers. The early focus of the company was electrical and controls upgrades. The projects included not only bulk material handling machines but expanded to conveying systems, water treatment system and ash handling systems.

In 2009, the company added several experienced mechanical/structural engineers. In 2011, REW was contracted to design, build, and install a rotary car dumper. The dumper was completed in 2012.

In 2013, REW designed and supplied two of the most powerful train positioners in the US. As of June 2016, we have successfully completed three new rotary car dumpers.

We have about 70 people in our sales team. They are responsible for all our customers, from the major supermarkets and cash and carries to pubs, restaurants and nightclubs. They are supported by national account managers who help the sales team deliver their business objectives whilst helping the major retailers deliver theirs.

In Marketing we have over 20 people. We have Marketing Managers, Brand Managers, Trade Marketing Managers and staff to support them and help make things happen.

Our Finance area has 30 people. Not just the accountants but also our administrators, Customer Service team, Logistics team and IT support team.
