In 1975 Rick and Jill Stein opened The Seafood Restaurant in Padstow. Now over 40 years on, they have expanded their business to include 12 restaurants, a pub, a cookery school, 40 guest rooms, self catering properties and 4 shops. The business is still very much family run with Rick and Jill working with their three sons, Edward, Jack and Charlie.

Many of the early families emigrating to the area were of Italian and Greek heritage, and were primarily middle class working in blue collar jobs. The enrollment of Ridgewood reached its peak in the early 1970's when almost 1800 students attended the school. In the early 1990's the enrollment dipped to its low point of almost 500. In the last few years we have experienced an increase in enrollment caused primarily by an influx of families of Polish heritage coming into the community. Currently Ridgewood serves approximately 920 students with the vast majority coming from the three ethnic groups mentioned above.

The Food Bank is helping Rhode Island solve the problem of hunger. What We Do

Since 1982, the Rhode Island Community Food Bank has solicited, stored and distributed surplus food and grocery products to qualified member agency programs that serve Rhode Island's hungry. Millions of pounds of donated food and nonfood household products are distributed to the community through our network of 160 member agency food programs across Rhode Island.

The Food Bank also serves Rhode Islanders in need through the following programs:
