Los terrenos y edificios del Instituto O'Higgins fueron comprados al Centro Cristiano por la Congregación Marista en 1958, contando el plantel entonces con unos 600 alumnos. Ese mismo año, gracias a las diligencias del diputado don Baltazar Castro, pudo conseguirse un beneficio gubernamental para la construcción de un nuevo pabellón de clases que se inauguró en 1961. En años posteriores se han continuado las construcciones hasta llegar al actual edificio educacional, uno de los más modernos de la ciudad.
