Commercializing Enzymatic Biodiesel Production

Enzyme catalyzed biodiesel production has long been on the cusp of revolutionizing the way in which biodiesel is produced. Historically, the high cost of enzymes has outweighed any benefits they might offer, such as their ability to convert low quality, high free fatty acid feedstocks, savings on energy consumption, and co-production of technical grade glycerin. Recently, the hurdle of making the process economically viable on a commercial scale has been overcome.

Biodiesel Refining

The use of enzymes results in a crude biodiesel with 1.5 - 2.0% unreacted FFA. Viesel initially used a caustic wash to turn this FFA to soap, followed by washes and centrifugation to remove the soap and water. The recovered soap was acidulated back to FFA, for re-use as a blend component in the feedstock

Viesel has most recently adopted the use of resin technologies; both as a catalyst to convert FFA to FAME and in an ion exchange capacity to adsorb any remaining FFA. The optimization of resins makes the refining process simpler, reduces yield loss, and has allowed Viesel to transition to a continuous flow process for the biodiesel refining section of the plant. Viesel will further develop the capability to convert the current batch enzymatic reaction process into a continuous process throughout 2014.

In 2007 Paaske Bus and Copenhagen Excursions merged and the mother company was named Vikingbus. Since the merger a lot has happened for the once small family owned company located in Copenhagen, Denmark. For example we expanded our national network in 2009 by founding a network of Danish coach companies. Hence we also provide high-standard transportation all over Denmark through a fleet that consists of 280 vehicles.

Our sales department consists of 9 highly motivated and service oriented professionals and an accounting department includes 3 persons.

HISTORY

Viking Cruises was founded by Chairman Torstein Hagen in 1997. The company established headquarters in Los Angeles, California in 2000 and through rapid expansion has enjoyed double-digit growth in recent years.

OCEAN CRUISES

In 2015, Viking introduced its first award-winning ocean ship with the 930-guest Viking Star. Sister ship Viking Sea joined the fleet in 2016, along with Viking Sky and Viking Sun in 2017. By 2022 Viking will have a fleet of eight ocean ships, making it the largest small ship ocean cruise line. Each ship boasts a veranda in every stateroom, a choice of restaurants, an infinity pool, a Nordic-inspired spa, panoramic Explorers' Lounge, and more. Itineraries range from 8 to 50 days and feature destinations such as Scandinavia and the Baltic, the Mediterranean, the British Isles, and the Caribbean.

Viking Electric Supply was founded in 1964 in St. Paul, Minnesota as a family-owned electrical distributor. Viking opened with 7,000 square feet of warehouse space with a mission to be a leader in the electrical distribution industry; provide quality products, services and solutions; and be the distributor you can depend on.
