Uppingham School, founded in 1584, is one of Britain's leading co-educational independent boarding schools. Almost 800 pupils are accommodated in 15 boarding houses, taught by two dozen academic departments, and participate in numerous extra-curricular activities such as sports, music, drama, and expeditions. The academic structure, which includes marketing and admissions, is supported by departments responsible for maintenance of buildings and grounds, finance, HR, catering, the school-wide IT network, domestic affairs, health care, sports centre, and the School's trading subsidiary.

In term-time (about 32 weeks each year) the School operates seven days a week. In the summer months it operates a commercial summer school. It has approximately 600 full-time and part-time employees, among whom the teachers report to the Headmaster and the support staff to the Bursar.

Upstream: A Center for Mindfulness Practice and Holistic Mental Health brings mindfulness to Columbia, SC by teaching Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) in an 8-week class series format. The goal: to help busy people relax, manage stress, reduce pain and obtain a mindful, present way of thinking for a more balanced life.

Students meet weekly for 2-hour group classes at the tranquil Upstream studio in Five Points, across from City Yoga. Tools like guided meditation, breathing exercises and gentle yoga are employed to combat a variety of everyday issues including stress, anxiety, worry, sleep-issues, pain and more. Students will also be able to experience a day-long silent Saturday retreat near the end of the series. The fee for an Upstream class series is $400. Sliding scale payment and scholarships may be available. Class series are offered seasonally.

Umm Al-Qura University is a public university in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. It is considered one of the most prestigious university in the entire Islamic world due to its unique location in Makkah Al-Mukarramah.

In 1949, King Abdul Aziz ordered the establishment of the College of Shari'a (Islamic Law) to become the first higher education institution in Saudi Arabia. It constituted the kernel of Umm Al-Qura University and its most prominent college. Henceforward, the establishment of higher education institutions continued. In 1952 the Teachers' College was established, followed by King Saud University in Riyadh in 1957.

Umm Al-Qura University has developed through three historical phases:

The first phase (1949 -1971): 
The start was in 1949 when the College of Shari'a was established, followed by the establishment of the Teachers' College In 1952 which continued until 1959 when the College of Shari'a took the responsibility of teachers' preparation and became the College of Shari'a and Education. In 1962 the College of Education was established as an independent college. 


The second phase (1971 -1981): 
In 1971 the Colleges of Shari'a and Education became part of King Abdul Aziz University in Jeddah and constituted its branch in Makkah. The College of Education in Taif was established towards the end of this period, followed by the establishment of other academic departments and centers. 


The third phase (Umm Al-Qura University): 
The University of Umm Al-Qura was established in 1981 by the royal decree number 39 on 30/7/1981. Over the past thirty years, Umm Al-Qura University has expanded dramatically. Now, it includes twenty seven colleges and higher institutes covering a broad spectrum of studies such as Islamic & Arabic Studies, Educational & Social Sciences, Computer & Engineering, Business and Tourism, and Medical, Dental, Pharmaceutical & Allied Sciences. During this period, Umm Al-Qura University established the nucleus colleges for Taif University & Al-Baha University.
