A £650,000 dedicated Breast Unit, The Waterlily Birth Centre, along with ward and theatre renovation programmes are among the projects which have taken place in the hospital in recent months.

The hospital, which has 488 beds along with 12 cots in the refurbished level two Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, serves a population of around 331,000 people living in Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire with varying health needs.

With a wide range of services offered here, the hospital is an exciting place to practice and we are leading the way together. Last year, 59,902 patients attended our Accident and Emergency Department, which has undergone a £2 million expansion and includes a specialist area for children. The hospital is a major trauma unit, which is backed up by five level three and eight level two critical care beds. The seven main operating theatres, which include two fully integrated endoscopic theatres, see a wide range of surgeries including general, spinal, colorectal, ENT, breast, trauma and orthopaedics, including upper and lower joint replacement, and paediatrics. Our ophthalmology department provides both medical and surgical retina services. A total of 2,400 babies are delivered each year within our maternity unit, which has a dedicated obstetric theatre, and a new midwife- led birth centre.

And it is not just the acute facilities which are being improved as staff areas are also getting a make-over. The hospital is also creating comfortable and modern areas for staff to relax in during their breaks.
