Jackson Public Schools is the second largest school district in Mississippi, serving about 30,000 students, representing more than 80 percent of school-aged children in the state's capital and only urban municipality. Jackson, Mississippi has about 172,000 residents in an area of 104 square miles. There are 7 high schools, 13 middle schools, 38 elementary schools, and 2 special schools comprising the district's 60 school sites. Jacobus Energy got its start in January, 1919 as Wauwatosa Fuel & Supply Company. Headed by C.C.
