In 1974 is er een splitsing doorgevoerd tussen de amateur- en de betaalde afdeling van Heracles om de risico's van het bedrijven van betaald voetbal niet af te wentelen op de amateursafdeling. De club heeft voornamelij in de Eerste Divisie gespeeld, maar is het laatste decennium opgebloeid tot een stabiele Eredivisieclub.

Heracles heeft een grote en vaste groep van bedrijven die door middel van sponsoring betaald voetbal in Almelo mogelijk maken. Bij de Businessclub zijn al meer dan 450 bedrijven aangesloten die door middel van betaald voetbal en 'business tot business'​ relatiemanagement bedrijven. Dat deze formule werkt en zakelijk voordelen met zich meebrengt blijkt wel uit de groei van deze businessclub. Herburg Roses Plc is established in 2006 in Ziway, Ethiopia at the Sher Ethiopia project. We started our first greenhouse in 2006 with 18 hectare of rose production. In 2008 we expanded our operation to a total of 40 hectare. All cut flower roses. We are now at the position of being in full production, which means an average 2 million rose stems per week, over a 100 million roses per year. Last year we found ourselves being at the top 4 of biggest exporting companies in the Horticultural industry in Ethiopia. Our management team has both Dutch and Ethiopian members being responsible for the daily process of this multi million operation.
