BGU offers undergraduate, postgraduate and work-based foundation degree courses, with an emphasis on enriching the lives of its students, staff and the community it serves.

BGU began life in 1862 as an Anglican teacher training college for women. In 1962 it was renamed Bishop Grosseteste College in honour of Robert Grosseteste, the thirteenth century scientist, philosopher, educator, and Bishop of Lincoln. In 2012, following a successful application for taught degree awarding powers we became an official University, Bishop Grosseteste University.

The past few years have seen a considerable growth in student numbers, with just over 2,100 students studying here. Na longínqua Itália vivia com sua família o pequeno Césare Ghislandi, que tinha entre os afazeres comprar 'fig sec' (figo seco). Mas esta era uma palavra difícil de ser pronunciada pelo menino que chegava na venda e pedia: 'Fistech'. Como gostava de contar boas histórias, resolveu então compartilhar com seus amigos a sua dificuldade em pronunciar 'fig sec'. E entre muitas gargalhadas, começaram a chamá-lo de Bistech. 'Nono Naco', como é conhecido, teve um filho chamado Adelino Ghislandi, que, em 1968 resolveu abrir uma venda no Centro da cidade que tinha como nome fantasia 'Bistek'. Em 1º de novembro de 1979, além de uma loja de confecção, a família passou a contar com um supermercado, que se chamou BISTEK.

A inauguração do supermercado, administrado pelos filhos de Adelino - Walter, Mário César, Aldo Sérgio, João Carlos (em memória) e Gláucio Wagner - moços ainda, representou a concretização de um velho sonho: colocar à disposição da população de Nova Veneza uma loja de autosserviço, como os estabelecimentos encontrados em grandes centros. Hoje a rede dispõe de 16 unidades distribuídas pelo território catarinense e se constitui como um dos principais faturamentos do setor supermercadista em S.C. Consolidada como uma empresa familiar, a Rede Bistek continua sendo dirigida pela família há 36 anos ( dados2015)

A reputed Deemed Private University located in Pilani, Rajasthan, India. BITS Pilani consists of 15 academic departments with a focus on education in engineering and the sciences.The institute was established in its present form in 1964 with a vision to realize Jawaharlal Nehru's project of nation-building with its emphasis on 'science, technology and modernization' . At that time, its transformation from a regional engineering college to a national university was backed by the Ford Foundation and G.D.Birla. MIT provided the technical assistance that was required for this transformation.
