Anton Krasny founded AKRAS in 1938.

Originally run as a trading company, AKRAS developed into an industrial operation specialising in distillates, extracts and essences for the foodstuffs industry.

Al Khaleej Sugar – literally meaning The Gulf Sugar – appropriately derives its name from the fact that it is the first sugar refinery in the Arabian Gulf Region.

Based in Jebel Ali in Dubai, Al Khaleej Sugar has current production capacity of 6,000 tons of refined white sugar per day, employing about 800 personnel. Since the commencement of production in July, 1995 it made remarkable progress to achieve the status of the largest standalone sugar refinery in the world. Plans are afoot to increase the capacity of the refinery to 7,000 tons per day to meet the growing global demand of refined sugar, which was achieved in July 2013 with a new set record of 7,270 tons in one day. Transport Workers' Union AKT r.a. (Registered association) is a strong caretaker of the interests of over 50 000 professionals working in the field of transportation. All registered associations for blue and white collar workers and self-employed persons in the field of car-, loading-, transportation- and other businesses connected to these ones, such as garage, oil products, terminal, tourism, forwarding, and traffic instruction can become member associations – local trade unions. Collective labour contracts for 20 professional fields are negotiated and concluded by AKT. One of the most important tasks of the Union is to improve the terms of employment and remuneration, to develop work safety and professional abilities, and to improve the societal status and education of the members of the Union.

The members of the Unemployment fund of the field of transportation are entitled to earnings-related unemployment benefit.

AKT is a member of the Central Organisation of the Finnish Trade Unions SAK. AKT is a member organisation of the Advisory board in the field of transportation within SAK. All SAK Unions in the field of transportation belong to the Advisory board. AKT is also a member organisation of the Federation of the Unions in the field of transportation as well as many unions that belong to STTK.

AKT is active internationally as well.
